Welcome to the Thiele lipid group!

Our group has a long-standing and general interest in lipids as biomolecules. The Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Physiology and immunological aspects of lipids are at the heart of our research program.

Headed by Prof. Christoph Thiele our interdisciplinary group combines expertise in (Bio)Chemistry and Cell Biology to investigate various aspects of lipid metabolism. The topics under study include the regulation of lipid anabolism and catabolism at all complexity levels ranging from the subcellular to organismal level.

To facilitate these studies our laboratory has pioneered various new techniques tackling several methodological shortcomings of the past. The solutions that we have provided include superior lipid tracers and detection routines enabling reliable, sensitive, and multi-modal tracing of lipids by state-of-the-art methods in lipid analytics.

We have always made these techniques available to the scientific community by providing agents, know-how and help yielding in numerous collaborative projects with scientists worldwide. We have built a strong national and international network to fascilitate lipid-related experiments and boost science in general.

Our research has always been generously founded by various organizations, including the German Research Foundation (DFG), German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and European Research Coucil (EU-FP7).
