As part of the initial LIMES concept, the construction of the main LIMES research building formally began in 2007, after many years of planning. Bonn-Poppeldorf was strategically selected as the building site. Located in the heart of the city Bonn, the institute is perfectly positioned within a hop and a skip to the beautiful botanical gardens, Poppelsdorf Palace and a great selection of restaurants, bakeries, cafés and bars - creating a great environment for staff and students alike.
The occupation of the building by the majority of the LIMES working groups took place in spring 2010. The chemical-oriented LIMES working groups remained at the site of their initial placement, the Kekulé Institute of the Department of Chemistry at Bonn-Endenich, which is 10 minutes by foot from the LIMES main building.
