Andreas Schlitzer is one of the ten most cited researchers in his field

This year, the University of Bonn is once again strongly represented in the international list of “Highly Cited Researchers”: According to the information service provider Clarivate Analystics, which compiles the list, a total of ten researchers belong to the most influential one percent of their field worldwide.

The University of Bonn is represented by ten researchers on the list of Highly Cited Researchers in 2024.

The list contains around 6,600 researchers from 59 countries. 332 scientists from Germany made it onto the list – including ten from the University of Bonn:

  • Wulf Amelung, Institut für Nutzpflanzenwissenschaften und Ressourcenschutz (INRES), Cross-Field (auch Forschungszentrum Jülich)
  • Thomas Bieber, Klinik für Dermatologie und Allergologie des Universitätsklinikums Bonn (UKB), Cross-Field (auch Christine Kühne-Center for Allergy Research and Education - Medicine Campus Davos)
  • Frank Ewert, Institut für Nutzpflanzenwissenschaften und Ressourcenschutz (INRES), Cross-Field (auch Leibniz-Zentrum für Agrarlandschaftsforschung)
  • Stefan Grimme, Mulliken Center for Theoretical Chemistry, Clausius Institut für Physikalische und Theoretische Chemie, Chemie
  • Marcel A. Mueller, Institut für Virologie am Universitätsklinikum Bonn (UKB), Cross-Field (jetzt Charité Berlin)
  • Matin Qaim, Zentrum für Entwicklungsforschung ZEF, Cross-Field
  • Andreas Schlitzer, LIMES-Institut, Cross-Field
  • Jonathan L. Schmid-Burgk, Institut für Klinische Chemie und Klinische Pharmakologie am Universitätsklinikum Bonn (UKB), Cross-Field

In addition, two other researchers, Frank Neese (Chemistry, Max Planck Society) and Joachim Schultze (Immunology, DZNE), are on the list who are primarily affiliated with other institutions but academically connected to the University of Bonn.

The survey uses the frequency with which their scientific publications have been cited by other researchers over the past eleven years (period from 2013 to 2023) as a measure of the influence of a research personality. Only publications that are included in the publication and citation database Web of Science are taken into account. The researchers listed are among the top one percent in terms of the number of citations in their respective field.

For the analysis, the makers of the list divided the publications into 20 subject areas and introduced the "Cross-Field" category, which lists researchers who have published publications in several subject areas.
